I'm no perfect. I'm original

I've had several conversations lately with girlfriends of mine about "owning who you are" versus "regretting what you do or say."  I struggled in my 20's and 30's with "owning who I am."  I am a strong,  passionate, serious, opinionated woman.  On this side of my life, my best advice for other women (and men) out there is to: "Own who you are.  Don't be afraid to be who you are."  I came across this quote on Pinterest and just absolutely love it!

I'm not perfect.  I'm original.

Happy Friday!!

This Is Your Life

Here is one of my favorite inspirational quotes called "This Is Your Life" which is below:

THIS IS YOUR LIFE.  DO WHAT YOU LOVE AND DO IT OFTEN.  IF YOU DON'T LIKE SOMETHING, CHANGE IT.  IF YOU DON'T LIKE YOUR JOB, QUIT.  IF YOU DON'T HAVE ENOUGH TIME, STOP WATCHING TV.  IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR THE LOVE OF YOUR LIFE, STOP.  THEY WILL BE WAITING FOR YOU WHEN YOU START DOING THINGS YOU LOVE.  STOP OVER ANALYZING.  LIFE IS SIMPLE.  ALL EMOTIONS ARE BEAUTIFUL.  WHEN YOU EAT, APPRECIATE EVERY LAST BITE.  OPEN YOUR MIND, ARMS AND HEART TO NEW THINGS AND PEOPLE.  WE ARE UNITED IN OUR DIFFERENCES.  ASK THE NEXT PERSON YOU SEE WHAT THEIR PASSION IS, AND SHARE YOUR INSPIRING DREAM WITH THEM.  TRAVEL OFTEN.  GETTING LOST WILL HELP YOU FIND YOURSELF.  SOME OPPORTUNITIES ONLY COME ONCE, SEIZE THEM.  LIFE IS ABOUT THE PEOPLE YOU MEET AND THE THINGS YOU CREATE WITH THEM.  SO GO OUT AND START CREATING.  LIFE IS SHORT.  LIVE YOUR DREAM AND WEAR YOUR PASSION.

Nole The Dog - A Year Later

Today is an emotional day for me for several reasons:
1) It was my last day at my current company.  Am starting at a great new company on 7/23 with ridiculously smart people, but it's hard leaving the people and work behind that I've done.
2) One year ago today I had to do one of the hardest things of my life to date...I had to part ways with Nole the dog (my 14.5 year old sweet black lab).

So, as I deal with these emotions, I decided to spend the afternoon at the spot where her ashes rest writing....why?  Because it's what I do when I need to think.

In honor of the sweet girl Nole, I want to celebrate her life with a Top 10 List of some of my favorite memories:
10. Chilling at the park
9. Playing in the fall leaves
8. The Houdini Dog - To this day I have no idea how you did it, but you always got out of that crate....I was amazed!!
7. How you destroyed everything for years...and I still loved you!  You were pure terror when bored.
6. The day we were playing in my yard in NC and you accidentally knocked my mom over...dad and I still laugh at that.
5. Catching you humping with Duncan the dog (that's for Christy)
4. The undying love you had for me...you knew when I was in a bad mood and just needed you to curl up on the sofa with me!
3. Your love for running.  You will always be my favorite running partner.  You helped me train for several marathons and half marathons.
2. The pure joy you got be playing in the snow - who knew you were a snow dog from The South (ie Yadkinville, NC...which translates as BFE for those reading this)
1. The sweetest day was when dad and I went to get you.  You just curled up in my lap.  That was the moment I knew we were meant to be.

I miss you tons baby girl.  I know you are better off...I am thinking about you today!  I love you tons!!

Be Where Your Feet Are

A very good friend of mine often says on Twitter: "Be where your feet are."  I love that saying.  Have you noticed how much time you spend on your phone lately?  It's amazing if you think about it.  We are completely dependent on these little devices.  My friends call my iKatie...does that explain my addiction to my iphone? I was at a bachelorette dinner in NYC recently and noticed that we were all on our phones most of dinner.  How sad is that?  We were taking pics, tweeting, Facebooking, texting boys, etc....why not spend the time with the people we loved at the table?  Don't get me wrong, I am guilty of this too.

I was on vacation last week.  Ironically, the first day in the Cape, I was addicted to my phone....boy how things changed on day 2!  It was as if it was a message from the universe to "Slow the hell down and chill out!"  Needless to say, I got the memo when my iphone tried to go for a swim in the ocean.  It did NOT work out so well for said phone.  Go figure!  So, after the initial panic attack.  I actually sat and stared at the ocean, met amazing people I might not have otherwise...and found life went on without my iphone in tow all day every day.

So the life lesson of this blog is: "Be where your feet are.  Enjoy your time with the people you love."
